Minitube 1.4

This release introduces YouTube channels support in Minitube. At first I thought it would be just a minor feature. You just search for a username instead of keyword. No big deal. Boy, I was wrong. While trivial from a technical perspective, being able to watch YouTube channel in Minitube brings a whole new depth to the application. Discovering channels is easy thanks to the autocomplete popup, which suggests the most relevant channels for a given keyword.

Version 1.4 also fixes many playback problems. Some of them are actually caused by slow YouTube streams. Minitube now tries very hard to get a fast stream and discards slower ones.

Linux CLI users will enjoy a small new feature. Minitube now can be launched from the command line specifyng a keyword or YouTube URL.

I’m experimenting with Transifex, a collaborative translation system. If you’re interested in helping translating Minitube, head over to Minitube’s project page.

As always, donations are welcome!

Actually, I have a little problem with a newest release. It doesn’t run on my up-to-date Debian, although the previous version did.
It ends up with such an error:
./minitube: symbol lookup error: ./minitube: undefined symbol: _ZN9QListData11detach_growEPii
Do you know, what could be the issue? And how to repair it?

is there any way to have url of a youtube page and have that video open up in minitube.
    Without using a terminal

Seeing it implemented almost immediately is plain k00lness!!

thank you very much for this one man! Keep up the great work!

I usualy wait the new release to be out & its as expected, very good evry time.

l want by the way suggest to implement some new helpfull features :

    – Support for 480p (lm running on G4 powerbook & cant play HD videos)
    – Highlight the Progress of the video in the progress Bar (or a Pourcentage)
    – Sort videos by some more criterias like date, name …
    – A Favorit Keywpord List
    – A Favorit Video List

These last two features can only be words or link saves in a Playlist like.

Another big feature alot of people are dreaming of is adding support for more providers sutch as DailyMotion, yahoo videos, metacafe …

    Thank u 4 the Job.

    • TiGR says:

Yes, support for 480p would be very, very nice feature! And it should be quite easy to implement.

Running 1.4 on mint 10 64 with KDE 4.5 fatal errors “file not found” and can’t find the multiplexer plug-in.

input_file not found file not found: >file:///tmp/minitube-mint.mp4<

    • Eduarten says:

i have the same problem in Ubuntu 10.10 [amd64], even though i installed it from repositories, alternate repositories, built .deb packs, and compiled from the sources – it’s same all the time:

      File not found: >file:///tmp/minitube-eduarten.tmp

plz Flavio… do sth about it.

    • decio says:

sorry for my english i hope you’ll understand.Same trouble i solved doing that:
opening tmp/minitube-decio.mp4 with vlc (always with this application)
      removing xine back end
      installind vlc backend
      all through synaptic
of course for opening with vlctmp/minitube-decio.mp4…mintube must be running
      let me know

Hello i have a problem with minitube … it is repeating the videos … it’s not playing the play list so i have to manually skip

  12. Louis says:

I’m on OSx 10.6.6, and I have the lastest version of minitube. No matter what I search for, I get a message saying “Could not open media source”. If I open a web page on youtube and find the same video, it works fine. I’ve been searching and it seems a few people have this same issue, but I do not see a resolution as of yet. Do you know what is going on, or what I should/could do?

    Thanks
    Louis

  13. Magnus says:

I’m having this weird problem with the playlist; when I select a video and play it, it keeps repeating instead of continuing to the next video in the list. Is this expected behaviour?

Hi flavio, I come back to suggest some Other Features.

By the way i found searchin channels was a Very Deep and Powerful Idea And i Cant leave it now.
So i would suggest to put a way so we can have more than 10 channels Stored on the starting window Of Minitube. That will be Very Helpfull For Folowing Favorite Channels and Should work As a Playlist.

Also i would Ask for a way making navigation trough a video Possible -on Macintosh Trackpad-, the same way as Vlc on mac.

    Thx

I have installed minitube but when I click in a video can’t see anything.

  19. nic911 says:

    Ciao.
    Grazie

Hm, how about feature “play all favorite user video” ?

  21. muetze says:

hi flavio, think i’m the second one with this problem. there’s still no answer from you for this case:
how making minitube run on my imac powerpc g3 500mhz 1 gb ram with 10.4.11?
launching the demo by terminal shows this error:
    /Applications/Minitube-Demo.app/Contents/MacOS/Minitube-Demo
    dyld: incompatible cpu-subtype
    Trace/BPT trap

    how to run it finally?

Minitube cant play any youtube video

    My system : ubuntu 10.10 64bit

this is the output with the phonon error about the temp file that doesn’t exist

    http://pastebin.com/8egJn9sw

Please fix this one as it seems many users have the same problem with me , at least provide a rock solid package for the 64bit

Thank you for your nice and smart software , show your love to the 64bit users though

  23. Cat says:

Hi, i have this bug where the videos keep repeating over and over again, the playlist doesn’t advance automatically. I just uninstalled phonon-backend-xine and all the xine files that i found through synaptic. Besides, vlc and gstreamer (phonon backend included) are installed, but the playlist still doesn’t work normally.
What do i have to modify to solve this?

using minitube 1.4.3 in Bodhi linux 1.1 (ubuntu 10.04)
    thnks in advance

y gracias por minitube!! lo amo!

    BUG/VISUAL

When I run MiniTube 1.4 on Windows 7 and clicking on Pause/Play the rest of the buttons moves. It seams like Pause/Play doesn’t have the same size.

Another thing is that 480p is missing. Plus possibly to make my own playlist would be CRAZY GOOD :) And to option to login to you own YouTube account..

Cheers keep up the good work! :)

  25. Katy Smith says:

I love the Minitube but I think it would be complete if a favorite button can be added. At the moment, it is a bit hard to keep track of favorite search.

    Cheers,
