Minitube can seek videos on Ubuntu 9.10!
I just upgraded my home fanless PC to the Karmic Koala. After reinstalling phonon-backend-gstreamer, that was left out by the update process, I was able to run Minitube 0.7 without problems. I was shocked when I found that video seeking now works. Not only it is working, but it can seek beyond the buffered part of the video. This means that you can immediately seek to the end of a video. This is just awesome.

Upgraded too. Seems Karmic brought another nice surprise, along with a 50% fps increase in Heroes of Newerth and a 12% smaller filesize for 7z.

Oz, provo a memorizzare il volume per la prossima release. La versione in italiano già c’è. Minitube usa il “locale” di sistema. Probabilmente il tuo sistema operativo è in inglese…
La creazione di playlist è molto bassa nelle priorità. Ma la navigazione dei canali, cioè dei video di un singolo utente è molto interessante. Grazie dell’idea!

personalmente la trovo una funzione comoda; mi piace di più avere una tray icon che la finestra dell’elenco finestre per un programma che sto usando molto come player audio, diciamo in stile last.fm

Well, if it’s possible to seek, maybe you can implement segmented buffering? For example, few streams buffer at once and every one of them buffers only several seconds, not half of the video, then goes to buffering next several seconds and so on. It would greatly improve performance, as Youtube often limits the speed for one stream. On my connection, I can watch video with ~30-50 KBps, but speed increases to 120 KBps when using downloader which supports segmented download.
I have minutube 0.9 installed on debian squeeze, but ‘seeking videos’ is not working. I tried to run it in console in hope that it writes some errors but nothing happened..
Does anyone has a clue?
