Comments on: Installing Minitube on Linux

Hi folks, I had similar issues to many of those mentioned when trying to install minitube on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid but found that the best solution was to install the dependencies:

sudo apt-get install libqtgui4 libqt4-xml libqt4-network libqt4-dbus phonon-backend-gstreamer gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad

Then to install the Webupd8 PPA’s not Christian Mangolds as per this page: http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/webupd8?dist=lucid
or directly from the Webupd8 site:
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/minitube-17-released-ppa.html

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install minitube

I had previously been pushed back to minitube v.0.9 by the ‘Ubuntu Tweak’ installer!!! Using the above Webupd8 PPA it took me straight to minitube v.1.7 which had only been released yesterday (5th Jan 2012). I have always found that Andrew gives very clear and accurate instructions and worth dipping into at least once a month to see what’s new. I hope that this helps someone.

I had the same issue (I am running ubuntu lucid 64-bit). I solved the issue by installing phonon-backend-gstreamer

Minitube 1.5 on linux xubuntu 10.04 lucid

Minitube starts, and I can enter a key word and everything but the videos do not play the progress bar just moves back and forth but no video or sound. Previously it played fine on this same OS setup. Oh and one more thing that is weird it will still download video correctly.

Well, I hope to somebady can to help me. I have minitube 1.5 over ubuntu 10.10. I can to play videos but I need to press skip button to play the next video. I mean, the same video repeats until I press skip button. Have somebody the same problem? Waht I can do to resolve?

I keep getting the same thing, when i run minitube from the terminal at start gives me: Object::connect: No such signal org::gnome::SettingsDaemon::MediaKeys::MediaPlayerKeyPressed(QString,QString)

I can searc for videos, and select them, but they simply doesn’t play, and in the terminal it gets a loop of:

theese lines keep appearing, i left the program running for 40 minutes and it was the same, after it says: retrying, it start again, and again…PLEASE HELP!

Found a solution…instead of qmake or qmake/qt4 I did the old fashioned make and make install compile routine and it works like a charm now.

Hi, kudos for your effort man but unfortunately I haven’t ever been able to run any of it.
Trying to get it working on a fresh Xubuntu 11.04 Natty installation.
The 1.3 deb version starts up as it should but whenever a video is clicked for playback I see the following error in my terminal :”Network error: “Error downloading http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=bla bla bla – server replied: Not Found” 203″
I tried to compile the source from your website but it will not go past qmake or qmake/qt4.
Very funny error mesage “WARNING: /home/-/minitube/minitube.pro:155: Unable to find file for inclusion local/meego/meego.pri” pops up.
I don’t have to install Meego OS to run it I presume ?
As I said your effort are much appreciated, I would appreciate it even more when I actually can run stuff.

Same for me, don´t worry you are not alone!
Any clue?, i use ubuntu 11.04, minitube appears
i can select what i want to see, then video do not play
