Media player is often a background application once you’ve selected the music you’ll hear for half an hour or so. I’d ratter prefer to free up the taskbar when I’m not actively using an app!
I as programmer taskbar space is precious and an tray bar icon is always nice :)

Agreed on this, a tray icon would be very fine (especially for small displays).
It could show a simple tooltip on mouseover (Artist – Track, Current volume level). As well, a left click could bring up Musique’s main window, and on right click a simple menu with usual functions (Previous/Next, Play/pause, Quit).
Mousewheel volume control? yes.

+1 for tray support. Think that’s the only essential feature that should be added to minimalistic yet very nice and handy player.
